What Makes Pixie Maz Alive?

On a busy street in Exeter, you can’t miss someone who moves through the world entirely on their own terms. When I saw Pixie Maz, her vibrant style immediately stood out. A blend of soft pink fur, lace detailing, statement sunglasses, and a sequined bag that caught every reflection.

I stepped up to ask her what makes her feel alive, and her response was immediate and unapologetic.

"Being myself. Every day is a gift, so I try to dress as brightly as possible. I can't bear beige colours, and I just like to be myself all the time."

Pixie’s relationship with clothing isn't just about fashion. It’s an extension of identity forged over decades. Having embraced punk culture at the age of twelve, she has always navigated health challenges and life's obstacles by leaning hard into authentic self-expression.

For Pixie, dressing boldly isn't about spending money; it's about rejection of the mundane.

"I hate normal, boring clothes. It’s up to people how they dress, obviously, but it’s not very expensive to dress the way I do. Every day I dress in my own style, my own way."

Filmed on Valentine’s Day, Pixie offered a grounded perspective on what love and connection really mean on the street:

"People should be a little bit kinder. Love is not just for couples, it’s for everyone. No matter what your age is, we should just be sharing love together and being as bright as we can with the way we dress."
