Inside Sharif Mirzad Bespoke Tailoring on Roman Walk with Sharif
True master craftsmanship is a rare art form that brings elegance and precision to the high street. In this feature, we visit Sharif Mirzad Bespoke Tailoring to chat with founder Sharif about his lifelong journey in tailoring, family heritage, and running his custom shop in Exeter.
Originally from Afghanistan and representing a third-generation tailoring family, Sharif began his craft at the young age of 7:
"I'm from Afghanistan... I'm a 3rd generation tailor in the family... I start tailoring since age of 7."
Having worked in the UK since 1995 and running his Exeter storefront since 2016, Sharif provides full in-house tailoring services—from custom suits and wedding gowns to leatherwork and alterations:
"We are a bespoke tailor... We are doing full tailoring in the house... everything you name it, and we're doing. We work with the leather, I do work with the wedding gowns, I do work with the ladies' wear, dresses, ladies' trousers, everything."
With turnaround times ranging from two to three weeks for alterations up to 12 weeks for a complete bespoke suit, Sharif’s dedication to his clients and his craft remains his greatest motivation:
"What do you enjoy about this? Just the people, you know, that's more enjoyable."
