Inside Pink Ginger Flower Cafe on Paris Street with Dao
Independent spaces that blend distinct crafts with warm hospitality bring a unique energy to the city. In this feature, we visit Pink Ginger Flower Cafe to speak with founder Dao about transitioning from master floristry to hospitality, and why making people happy sits at the heart of her business.
Originally from Thailand and trained as a British master florist, Dao launched the cafe around Mother’s Day two years ago, weaving together her love for flowers and cafe culture:
"My business is Pink Ginger Flower Cafe. I am by trade florist. I'm a British master florist... Mother's Day, two years ago, that's when we started."
The shop's vibrant name reflects both its visual aesthetic and its deeper philosophy of roots and backgrounds:
"Pink is a kind of happy colour & ginger is actually mean the roots. We all have different backgrounds & different roots. So I'm originally from Thailand... We sell flowers & also we sell coffee & cake."
True to her floral expertise, Dao brings nature directly into the menu, garnishing drinks and bakes with delicate edible flowers:
"As a florist... we decorate our cakes & our drinks with edible flowers. Our business is making people happy, connecting with people, talking to people."
Among the cafe's top offerings is a meticulously sourced authentic beverage that keeps customers returning:
"Our matcha latte is a top seller. It's a real matcha that came from Japan. Our cake is not sweet. Our cake is very creamy. But the cream & the milk in Devon is so, so good."
Looking forward, Dao embraces the challenges of running an independent spot in a vintage building with a clear vision centred on community support:
"If they're a bit lonely, they can just come & sit here. There's always someone who's there for them. People make places, that's always a way."
