What Makes Gemma Alive?

On Exeter's streets, inspiring encounters often reveal incredible depths of personal strength and devotion. In this feature, we speak with Gemma about family, building resilience through adversity, and the importance of pursuing what you want in life.

For Gemma, vitality and happiness are rooted entirely in her husband and children:

"My children, my family, my husband, everything I do is kind of for them to make sure that they're happy, they've got a good future."

Reflecting on her husband's unwavering support, Gemma highlights how essential his encouragement has been to her confidence:

"Yeah, my husband does. He massively... he absolutely backs me on anything. He's given me the confidence to do what I want to do."

Opening up about her past, Gemma shares how growing up without parents shaped her inner strength and determination:

"I didn't have the best upbringing. I don't have any parents... That was quite hard growing up, but it's made me realise the importance of my family now, my husband and my children. Made me more resilient and stronger and eager to fight for what I want and fight for the life that I want to have."

Closing our conversation, Gemma shares an empowering message for the world:

"You can be anything you want to be. There's no limits. You can do & be whoever you want, go for it. Life's too short."
