On Bristol's streets, spontaneous conversations often connect us with artists and creatives shaping the modern music landscape. In this feature, we meet Theo, the guitarist and vocalist for the Devon-based indie folk trio Tors, to talk about what brings music and meaning to life.
For Theo, nothing compares to the electric energy of performing live and sharing deep connections with an audience:
"When we're on stage, connecting with people, & they're singing the words back to us & it's deeply personal things we've written... that makes me feel alive, connecting with people."
Describing the band's roots, Theo shares:
"We are Tors, we are like a kind of indie, I guess folk, trio from Devon. We all sing harmonies, it's guitars, it's drums, it's three white boys playing indie music."
Reflecting on personal struggles and loss, Theo opens up about honouring his grandparents who passed away from dementia and Alzheimer's:
"We even wrote a song about it called 'Won't Remember' for our granddad who sadly had passed away after dementia... that's always a difficult thing to experience & to watch someone you love & know so dearly kind of disappear before your eyes... it's something that makes you appreciate people while you still have them."
Closing our conversation, Theo shares a powerful and grounding message for the world:
"Just be kind. You never know what the person sitting next to you on the tube or the bus or walking to work—you don't know what they're going through, so give everyone the benefit of the doubt... spread a little love."
